My Therapeutic Christmas Tree

I bought myself a therapeutic Christmas tree. It makes me feel like I'm in Narnia every time I enter my room. It’s like pulling teeth for me to buy anything for myself but I finally broke down and bought it for $30 at Walmart. I’m all for having Christmas trees before Thanksgiving. Most the time my family and I put up our Christmas tree after Halloween. That may sound crazy to some but we love it. There’s something so comforting about Christmas trees to me. They remind me of the warmth that surrounds the memories of tradition and childhood.
Except for this one possessed Christmas tree I had when I was little. It was very pink and sparkly and had a whole nest of spiders in it without me knowing. That one just reminds me of trauma and endless spiders. Haha, oh memories.
Let us not think about such times. ;)
College has created a knot of worry and stress within me, so I needed something to calm my anxious heart. Between doing five college courses and working at a preschool, I have been one very busy bee. And it has helped. That Christmas tree has brought some life to my room even though it’s an artificial one.
I’ve been trying to treat myself more with little, simple things instead of being a robot working on schoolwork nonstop. I'm learning that it is okay, to treat myself. To find things that make me happy and make time to do them. I’ve been reading poetry every night from the books I received for my birthday. I’ve been lighting candles that smell like cookies and all things good in the world. I’ve been making time for devotions every morning before I go to work. I’ve been bringing books to read to the preschoolers that I work with. They run to me at the beginning of each week asking what book I’ve brought next. Life has been crazy, there's no doubt about it. But I’m making it through. Besides, I have three weeks left till I’m done with my first semester. That’s definitely something to be happy about.:)
What has been making you happy recently?

I hope college is going well for you! I'm terrified of enrolling, so I'd love to know how you balance everything. ;)

I love your tree. It's so... essence of the holidays.

p.s. things making me happy: phone calls with best friends, apple pie (oh yeah, you got it), staying up way too late on pinterest looking at someone's humor board, and this unfailing love that God has lavished upon me. oh man. so good.

  5. EVE it's so good to hear from you :) Your Christmas tree is absolutely beautiful. We haven't set ours up yet, but I'm thinking it'll happen soon :) Christmas trees definitely remind me of childhood too. They're so captivating. (Except the spiders. EW SPIDERS.)

  6. Girl I am in the same boat as you! Working as a nanny and going to school has definitely taken a stress filled and anxiety filled toll on me. It has effected me physically- I am having to go to the chiropractor twice a week now. I will pray for you, friend! I understand a little of what you're going through!
    I love your tree!

  10. Hello! I love your blog so much; you have a really beautiful design! Oh my gosh I love Erin Hanson's poetic underground; I think there is so much passion in her poems which covers a multitude of different world issues which affect teenagers and adults alike, they really speak to me. I have followed your blog because I think it’s so good!!! I would love it if you had a look at my blog; I’m a very passionate teenage blogger but I’m quite new and really need the support! Perhaps we could become friends? Thank you so much // Jeani xxx www.jeanithoughts.blogspot.co.uk
