Once there was a girl who owned a sparky hot pink bike with rainbow steamers on the handles.
And she loved her bike very very much.
One day, she and her little sister decided they wanted to take a little bike ride with their mother.
And that was exactly what the trio did.
The girl rode as fast as she could, feeling as if she was on top of the world. But as she kept on peddling faster and faster her confidence had begun to melt away. The bike was going too fast, and to make matters worse she suddenly forgot how to brake (probably caused by the the the swift fear that had taken control of her mind).
What do you think this little girl did in that traumatic situation?
Well, she prayed. Prayed that God would keep her from falling into a nearby ditch and take control of her bike and lead her to safety (Jesus take the wheel).
There was one small problem (as there always is).
The problem was..she was praying with her eyes closed. You may wonder why this silly girl shut her eyes while riding her bike (in full speed). Well, this particular little girl was always told that it was disrespectful to open her eyes when someone was praying, and she thought that this incident was no different.
What happened next may be all too obvious.
Her bike turned toward a nearby ditch on her neighborhood street, and she fell (feeling like she was plunging to her death) right into the ditch, bike and all.
Her mother who I can only imagine was in terrible shock since she was thinking that her daughter was simply having such a good ol' time when she was riding her bike. Her mother rushed to the little girl and pulled the bike off her.
As you can imagine, the girl was screaming at the top of her lungs, a scream that was a mixture of fear and hurt.
Her mother asked, "Are you alright?"
The girl only answered with heavy sobs.
Once the girl was emotionally stable, her mother asked, "Are you hurt?"
The girl said, "My knee hurts reeeeaaallly bad!" and after her reply, more tears came.
And there it was on her knee, a small almost invisible bruise that had might as well been a a gun shot wound to a little girl.
So her mother helped her up and the girl limped as she held onto her mother's hand for balance. Every step was pure agony for the girl as they walked back home, her little sister peddled behind them.
When they made it home, her mother treated the girl's wound with a band-aid (because band-aids make everything better and practically heal anything, even small, almost invisible bruises).
Her mother asked, "How did you exactly.. fall into a ditch?"
"I was praying, Mommy. Because I didn't want to fall." the girl answered.
After hearing her daughter's reply I can only guess that the mother was probably trying to keep a straight face in order to keep her laughter contained.
"You know," the mother began. "you don't have to pray with your eyes shut. Sometimes you have to keep your eyes opened. If I pray in the car it doesn't mean that I should close my eyes, because I might have a wreck."
So, it's okay to sometimes keep your eyes opened when you pray?" the girl said.
Yes, that's right." the mother said with a smile.
The girl understood and never ever shut her eyes while riding her bike again.
The End.
You may have guessed, that that little girl is me.
Me when I was about six I suppose.
Me when I was about six I suppose.
And yes, it's all true.
I've never really shared memories before on my blog so I thought I would start today. Here's a little humorous one for you! :)
That is hilarious, sad, and such a classic example of how little children think. XD Love it, Eve!

DeleteChildhood memories are so cute! I remember dumb stuff I did when I was younger. When I was five, I only went to preschool for half of the day, and the other half I stayed at home. I had this weird notion of wanting to become a teacher, so I got some of my parents' postal address stickers (not post stamps, but these stickers that state who you are and your address, etc.) and the stickers would represent the "names" of my students. I put them on my bookshelf and they wouldn't come off, and I got into big trouble. You were so cute when you were younger! :))))

DeleteHilarious and adorable, Eve! :-D
ReplyDeleteI owned that bike!!! :D I pray with my eyes closed because my mom taught me it was disrespectful to keep them open, but on those days where it's really hard to not fall asleep (sometimes, restless nights happen!), I keep them open and just look down. I figure it's more disrespectful to fall asleep!
ReplyDeleteVery cute story. (:
