Read More 01

So I've recently decided that I'm going to create a new post series. Since I absolutely LOVE to read, I thought that every so often I would post about some of my favorite books. I hope this "Read More" series will literally inspire you to read more and find great books that you'll love. So, here me go!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer-
Cinder, an incredible mechanic, is a cyborg. Cyborgs are second class citizens who are just normal human beings with robotic body parts. Cinder's life turns upside down in a blink of an eye. Her step-mother blames her for the sudden illness that her real daughter seems to have, and she meets the person everyone swoons about: The Prince. She uncovers the dark secrets that may change her life forever. Caught between loyalty, betrayal, freedom and duty, she must make a choice that will effect the whole world.
Thoughts: This book was amazing! I'm not one of those people who likes robot futuristic type books but this book was an exception. It was incredibly well-written and was definitely a page-turner. If you enjoy this book who can also read the rest fo the series. So far Scarlet and Cress are out but Winter will not be released until Novemeber which is practically torture to wait that long! ;)

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson-
Fifteen year old Tiger Lily has never believed in happy endings or romance...until she meets Peter. The most feared person in Neverland. His bravery and impetuousness fascinates her. She soon realizes that she is risking everything for this boy: her family, friends, and even her entire tribe. When someone new arrives at Neverland, Tiger Lily's heart is broken and the love inside of her turns to hate.  Based on the classic story of Peter Pan, this fascinating tale shows another side of the story and gives us a deeper look at the mysterious land of Neverland.
Thoughts: I liked how Anderson vividly created all the characters in her book. I loved Tiger Lily. I was in awe of her unique personality. She was strong and brave yet calm and caring. This book had such a cool twist to it. I thought it was so awesome that the book was narrated by Tinker Bell. I can't recommend this book enough!

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd-
Set in South Carolina in 1964, this book tells the story of Lily Owens. Her life is shaped by the blurred memories of the day her mother was killed. When Rosaleen, Lily's black "stand in mother" insults three racist men, Lily and Rosaleen must act fast. They quickly escape to Tiburon, South Carolina- a place where Lily thinks holds the secrets of her mother's past. Taken in by three black beekeeping sisters Lily begins to realize what family and friendship truly is and the secrets of her deceased mother.
Thoughts: I loved this book! It was such a powerful read, and I have to say, I'll never look at bees the same way ever again. :)

The Help by Kathryn Stockett-
This book follows the lives of three women in 1962, living in Mississippi: Minny, Ailbleen, and Skeeter. Minny and Ailbleen are both black maids who are best friends but are total opposites. Minny is a sassy woman who can barely hold her tongue. Aibleen is a quit woman who looks after a white lady's child named Mae Mobley. Skeeter is a white young woman who has always wanted to be a writer. The trio takes the first step in starting a movement that will change the way the racist people in their town think forever.
Thoughts: The Help is such a beautifully crafted book. I wish I could've written a little bit more in the description for the book, but I didn't want to give a single thing away. This book made me laugh along with the characters and cry with them too.
It's a book I will never forget. <3

Serafina's Promise by Ann E. Burg-
Serafina is a young girl who lives in a poor village in Haiti. Even though her live is hard, she has a dream. A big dream. She wants to become doctor, but in order to be one she has to go to school. She has always wanted to go to school but she knows her family needs her help. She makes a promise to her deceased baby brother, Pierre, that she will someday go to school and become a doctor so she can save babies like him. This free-verse novel will show you the sadness, beauty, and hope in the life of Serafina.
Thoughts: Serafina's Promise was an amazing novel. I loved how it was written like poetry. Beautiful!

My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis Holt-
Tiger wants nothing more than to get out of her small town, Saitter, Louisiana. She wants to get away from the responsibility of taking care of her mentally disabled mother, from the fact that her father is "dumb" and can barely read, and from her classmates who constantly tease her and her family. When she gets the opportunely to leave the town, she thinks that it's finally her way out. Little does she know of the dark secrets her family keeps that makes her make a decision that will forever change her life. Set in the 1950s, this book tells the story of a young girl who finally realizes how lucky she really is.
Thoughts: This book is definitely one of my favs now! It was such an amazing novel! Even through her struggles, Tiger showed us that there is beauty in everything, you just have to look hard enough.
