Craving the Ocean

breath in
breath out
repeat
I'm desperately craving the ocean. My family and I will be visiting a beach in a week or so. I want to breathe in the cool salt air and breathe out all the stress that's bottled up inside. I want to hear the waves roar and build sand castles like I'm a little girl again.
The beach is such a different place compared to where I live. The only thing that slightly resembles a beach is a lake near my home. But the water is waveless, the sand feels more like mud, and trash pollutes the murky waters. So yeah, not your idea of an "ideal beach experience". I am so, so looking forward to vacation! And of course I will definitely be blogging about it. I feel like I've been neglecting my poor lil' blog lately. Last week was just so busybusybusy.
I face painted for our local library's summer carnival last Monday. It was a cold, wet, cloudy day. Perfect weather for a carnival that's celebrating the sunny days of summer.;)
The carnival was superhero themed so I had to somehow teach myself how to make superhero themed face art. I had no idea what to do. Growing up with three little sisters I only knew how to face paint butterflies, hearts, you know, simple stuff. Thank goodness for Youtube. I watched tutorial after tutorial for anything superhero related and finally figured out how to create somewhat decent looking superheroes.
When Monday arrived I transformed 20+ kids into either Wonderwoman, Batman, Spiderman, or of course Elsa. (She counts as a superhero, right?)
Random fact: I was going to take pictures of my sisters with the superhero face paint on them so the kids at the carnival could choose which face paint they wanted. Well life got busy and I totally forgot about my plan. So what did I do? I did what any normal person would have done. I painted my little sisters' baby dolls' faces so the kids could pick which face design they wanted. Yeah, I'm that cool. ;)
I also took the SAT on Saturday. Though I was just taking it more for experience rather than for the score (since I'm a sophomore), I was still incredibly afraid. I stressed out over it all week. But I made it through, guys, and I live to tell the tale. I know this post is probably extremely random but that's just how life is sometime (or most of the time in my case).

To complete the utter randomness of this post, here is a random quote I've been loving:
“IT IS OUR CHOICES, THAT SHOW WHAT WE TRULY ARE,
FAR MORE THAN OUR ABILITIES.”
J. K ROWLING

p.s. I'll be uploading a video to vimeo soon! I'll share the video on my blog when it's uploaded.

  1. Oh man. The ocean is so good. It is so refreshing. I've only been there once, but oh man... It was the best. The waves are so stinking powerful and salt gets in your eyes and you just live for it. The best feeling ever. It carries you off your feet (literally). XD

Sounds like you've been having a wonderful week. I like that quote. And I cannot wait for the video! :-D

  2. I love the ocean- not necissarily the California ocean, because its, well, gross- but the beaches of Oregon *sighs*. They are so lovely.
That's so cool that you did face painting! And I can't wait for the video either. <3

    1. How exciting! Ugh jellyfish. A few years back my sister got stung by a Portuguese man o' war (which is a lot like a jellyfish) at the beach. Thanks, Ellie! <3

  6. EVE, oh my gosh, that was beautiful! I hope I'm still in the blogging world when you post it. I'm going to be gone for awhile :'( I wish I could go to the beach, too; my family takes an annual fishing trip but ever since my dad realized something is wrong with his back, we haven't gone.

How were the SATs? I'm taking the practice SAT and ACT this fall so that way I'd know what to expect in my junior year. They seem terrifying right now, ack! Elsa counts as a superhero, definitely! Ice cold powers + awesomeness = superhero!

    xoxo Morning

    1. Aw, thank you! That's a bummer. :( Hopefully you'll get to go sometime. :)

It was pretty good. I feel a lot better about the SATs now that I've taken it for practice. At first I was so afraid of getting a low score or not understanding the questions, but after taking it, I feel like a lot of the fear has been lifted off my shoulders. Once you take the practice SAT and ACT I bet you'll feel a lot more comfortable with them. :)

  8. The beach... yes, the beach sounds lovely right about now, just to read a book while listening to the hypnotic water.

But let's learn to live freely even in the SAT (or Clep in my case), Volunteering (or leading in my case), and everything-in-between filled lives. Let's breathe out, knowing that we can't do it, breathe in, knowing the Jesus already did it, and then begin to live.

    Hugs and encouragement!

  9. The beach sounds so amazing right now, Eve! I am actually going on a safari for a mini-vacation here soon, and I could not be more excited!
Unfortunately, all the beaches I've ever been to have been small, cramped ones. I have yet to go to a big, beautiful one like you are going to be going to!
On my bucket list- which is EVER SO GROWING- is to be on the beach alone at night. :) This would evoke so much nostalgia and feeling, but I absolutely cannot wait to do this.
Have a beautiful time at the beach! You should take a break; you really do a lot for us. Post when you return; we'll understand.

  11. I've never been to the ocean, but we live by a mountain lake so I guess that's good enough for me. There's just something amazing about being in water and feeling it move around you!

And yes, random posts are the best.

    COOL FACEPAINTING!!
