Chapter 4: The Girl of Flames

My other Chapters:

Chapter 4:
The Girl of Flames
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Clara had rested and stayed in bed for a few days she was no longer weak. She was ready for her journey.
Oran and Clara packed what they needed for the journey. Each day the sky was gray and stormy, it made everything look old and depressing.
The sun was hidden, if there was a sun at all. As she walked out of her room and out of the door, the cool wind whipped through her.
Oran was outside waiting for her.
He had a large back pack on as did she. He was wearing black pants with a black hoodie as if he was trying not to be to noticeable.

"Ready?" Oran asked.

"Ready." She said with determination, trying to hide the fear inside of her.

"So, uh where exactly are we going?" Clara asked, hoping he wouldn't give her one of those irritated looks.

"First of all, we need to get to The Place of Darkness." Oran said as if that settled the matter.

"Uh, well okay then. That clears things up." she said sarcastically.

Oran handed her a earbud type thing.

"Put this in your left ear. It will make you seem invisible to The Darkness. That way you can be safe." he said.

She put the earbud in her ear and Oran did the same.

"Now I think were ready." he said with relief.

Oran started walking down a path into the woods and Clara followed. She knew Oran wasn't much for talking but she wondered why he was so serious all the time.
Had she ever seen him smile when he was happy? Had she ever even seen him happy before? He was strange. His voice was like a whisper but firm. He seemed to always wear black as if he was a shadow. She tried to strike up a conversation with him to make the time pass by more quickly.

"So, uh... tell me about yourself. I've known you a while but I don't really know you... You know what I mean?" Clara asked with hesitation.

"If you want to talk then fine. I'm Oran, you know that. I've seventeen as in today. It's my birthday. There, do you know me enough now?" he said with ease.

"Oh, happy birthday. This probably isn't the best birthday is it? Wandering in the wilderness, no balloons or cake and other birthday stuff..."

"We don't celebrate birthdays anymore. There's really is no reason in it." Oran said in his low voice.

Clara tried to change to subject.

"So, I know you think I'm the light in the darkness or whatever but nothing strange has happened to me yet. I don't feel like I have powers."

"They will come when they are needed. The longer you wait the stronger they'll get."

They walked on and on. It seemed like forever.

Finally they sat down for a while.

"Do you smell something, something burning?" Clara asked Oran.

"Yes. we must see what it is. I can feel The Darkness near."

Clara. having no idea what he had just said but followed him as he went off the path until they saw a village. Everything was black and burnt and some of the flames still danced around the village.

"What happened here?' Clara asked.

Oran's face looked a great deal sadder than  usual but something else rested in his sadness. Anger.

"The Darkness. they have been attacking villages and taking the strong men as slaves."

Clara looked around. Wondering what it might have been like when the village was alive and thriving.

She felt something inside of her. Pulling her to something. She let the force take her as she tripped and stumbled along. Oran quickly followed her. When it stopped. She was near burnt boards of would that once stood as a building. A pale hand could be seen peeking out of the pile of wood.

Clara quickly took action. She threw the boards and and pieces of coal black wood Oran came over to help her quickly dodging the pieces of wood. Something inside of her was giving her a strength she had never had before.

She pulled the body gently out of the rubble. Oran looked at the body. It was a little girl. She was tiny and thin, her flaming red hair was covered with dirt and ash.
Oran looked up at Clara.

"Clara it's too late... There's nothing either of us can do for.." Oran said as Clara interrupted him

"No, Oran. It may be okay around here to let people just die, but how I was brought up, you never give up without a fight!"

She tried to feel a pulse. Everything was still.

She couldn't take it anymore. This wasn't right. All the anger, fear and sadness came out in one blow. Tears fell down her cheeks and on to the small girl. They glistened like diamonds falling from her cheeks.

Drip, drop.
Drip, drop.

When she finally got up, the child moved. As if she had been awakened from a deep sleep.
Clara gasped. She quickly collapsed down to her knees and checked the girl's heartbeat. It was beating, like any normal human being. The little girl's stormy eyes flickered opened.
Redhead

"Hello? I'm Clara. Are you alright?" Clara helped the girl up as she said this.

The girl nodded but said nothing.

"Oran we have to get her out of here. We can't leave her, they might come back. Can't she come with us?"

"It will be dangerous Clara, but I guess she'll be in danger here as well. We might as well take her along." Oran said.

Clara helped the girl to her feet.

"What is your name?" Clara asked calmly.

"Edana." The girl said in her strong yet steady voice.

Clara noticed that there was a orange cat beside the girl.

"Is it yours? Clara asked.

"Yes, it's the only thing I have left."
So off they went.

What a quartet.

Salt Water and Warm Sand

Hello! I'm so sorry for not posting (a good post) for a while. I've posted snippets of poems and photos but nothing about what has been currently happening in my life. So I went on vacation to...
the beach!!!
It was awesome! I have some photos to share with you. Enjoy!

This is me at the beach on the first day. It was so lovely. The salty breeze, the soft sand,
and loud lull of the waves, made it very relaxing.

My little sisters, obviously very excited to be on the beach. ;)

We had a shrimp boil with our family. It was sooooooo good! It may not look that nice but trust me, it was amazing. :)

Sunrise

The little girls on the beach.

It was so hard to leave the ocean. It definitely was an awesome vacation.

P.S. Sorry for the mess of a design on this blog. I'm just trying out new stuff, and I hope you can see past it. :) I will also be writing the 4th chapter for the writing challenge after this post.

Have you ever been to the beach? Did you like it?

Entry for Hannah's Writing Contest

Cotton candy!

Friendship is like cotton candy.
It may be sweet,
but after a while,
it dissolves and disappears.
People grow apart,
they change so quickly.
The sweet sugary taste doesn't last forever.
The person you could once trust with every little secret,
is now the one who tells everything about you.
The one you laugh with,
makes you sad in the end.
Friendship is like cotton candy.
Yes, it is sweet,
but everything has an ending.
Everything has to dissolve sometime.
Sometimes but only sometimes,
friendship can be something more than just cotton candy.
Sadly,
I haven't experienced a friendship like that yet.

Layne's Questions

1. Percy Jackson or Harry Potter?
Harry Potter!

2. Luna or Hermione?
I love them both! I really like Luna though.

3. Movies or Books?
Hard question! I really love books, but I also love to watch a good movie. Books have a different effect compared to movies. Books have a way of transporting you into a different life and a different world. Sometimes it's nice to escape reality and just read. :)

4. If you could have any Disney animal for a pet who would it be?
I like Mulan's horse. :)

5. Do you like Elsa or Rapunzel better.
I really like Elsa, but I love Rapunzel's personality.
                                                             via

6. Would you rather be sisters with Ginny Weasley or Annabeth Chase?
Ginny!

7.  Would you rather eat bertie bott's every flavored beans or Chocolate frogs?
Chocolate frog! I've always wanted one of those. Plus I'll get a cool 3D card thing out of the deal. ;)

8. Would you rather be a demigod or a wizard?
Wizard!

9. Are you more like Luna or Hermione?
I love Luna, but to be honest I am very Hermionish. I can be bossy at times and am definitely a perfectionist. I think I have a bit of Luna in me as well. I'm not the type of person to follow a crowd, I'm very laid back, and I am a bit weird. ;)

10. Give a random fact about yourself concerning Disney movies.
I absolutely love Disney songs! They're so inspirational and always have a good message. :)

Chapter 3
Uncertainty
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clara awoke in an old bed with crisp white sheets.
She looked around the room she was in.
There was a window where the stormy light seemed to shine through.
The paint on the walls and wooden furniture were peeled and worn.
She couldn't hear a thing.
The silence was too loud to bear.

All of a sudden, she could hear faint footsteps. They grew louder and louder until she could see the shadows of a set of feet under the door. The door screeched opened and a old woman stepped in. She had eyes that twinkled with curiosity, and she had wrinkles like etched memories on her face. She slowly hobbled over to where the girl lay.
In her hands she held a tray with a bowl of porridge and a glass of water.

"Hello, dear. I see your awake. I brought ya some food if your hungry."

Clara was not in any mood to eat with all that had happened, but to be polite she kindly accepted.
The old woman handed her the tray and sat down on a nearby chair. After taking a  bite of the so-called "porridge" she asked,
"Excuse me, I know this may sound silly but why am I here?"

"I can't tell you much, deary but I will tell you some of what I know. You see, you are special. You are the Chosen One. The One who will save us all. I can't tell you anymore. Rest dear. You'll need your strength." As the old woman said this, Clara stuck her tongue out on a napkin and tried to remove the disgusting porridge, hoping that the old woman hadn't noticed. After realizing what the woman said, Clara looked at the woman in disbelief.

"But I can't just rest. I need to know more. Why am I here? Who are you? What do you mean by "Chosen"? Why would..."

"All in good time, child, all in good time. Please just save your strength for now. Oran will tell you more." and with that the woman hobbled out of the door and disappeared.

Clara had so many questions whirling around in her head. She was definitely not going to rest. She had to see more of this place even though she wasn't sure where she was.

She got out of the bed. As she placed her feet on on the worn hardwood floor she noticed that there were papers everywhere. Drawings of buildings, people, nature. She sat on the paper filled floor and picked up a pencil of the many that were lying around.  She was a bit bored yet was burning with anticipation. She found a blank piece of paper and began to draw.
She tried to remember something from her past but she couldn't. The only think that wasn't locked or blurred in her mind, was her dream. She drew the raven black sky, and tiny specks of people flooded the the lower part of the paper. She then drew the light. The burned through the blackness.

When she was done she looked out the window. The sky was a whitish gray, the way it looked when a storm was coming. There were some buildings outside but all were old and looked like they would crumbled at any second.

Her curiosity could not keep tame any longer. She had to know where she was, who she was. She opened the window and climbed out. She walked away from the old house and began to explore her new surroundings. She then noticed that she was barefoot and was wearing pajamas but it wasn't like anyone was going to see her. It was like a ghost town. She looked around in search of finding something familiar.

"Boo." a familiar chilling voice said. It made her jump with fright and she screamed.
"Ahh!"

When she turned around she could see that it was Oran.

"Oh, it's you." she said coldly.

"I see you've been exploring. Anything look familiar to you?" Oran asked.

Clara shook her head. Everything looked ancient, why would it look familiar to her?

"Figures. I thought it may look a bit the same. But I guess age has changed it dramatically."

"What do you mean?" Clara asked.

"This is the place you were at before you woke up. In that dream world of yours. It may be old and falling apart, but if you look closely you can see it's young beauty. Everything was beautiful then, Clara.
People took all their freedom for granted. The year 2014 was just so long ago. We had to hide you there. Well, your mind anyways. We had to keep you asleep. Because if you awoke, they would find you... and well... kill you. You were are last hope Clara, our only light in the darkness. You.."

Oran noticed that Clara was turning pale and gasping for air.

Oran quickly helped her sit down on the dead grass.

"Are you alright?" he asked. "I'm sorry, I told you too much. There's not much time and.."

"It's okay, Oran. I forgot how to breathe." she said sarcastically with a smile.

Oran smiled back.

"Please, Oran. I need to know everything. Why did you say that 2014 was so long ago? That's this year! Who wants to kill me? Why.."

" Let me start from the beginning, Clara. You will never understand unless you hear the whole thing through." Oran said calmly.

Oran's words became a picture in her mind. The story was coming to life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A baby was born through the coal black night.
Her parents knew she was in danger as they already were.
They were the leaders of the land.
She was the last of her kind.
She was the Chosen One.
She was powerful.
She had to be sent away, faraway, where no one would find her.
She was sent to a town, that had been deserted for decades.
She was sent into an eternal sleep never to wake until she was 16.
she lived in the past in her mind.
A place that was not yet a world of hopelessness.
A world she could have a family,
an ordinary life.
She lived in her mind as she slept in an old room, in an old house.
As she slept,
chaos was a brew in the world she had not known of.
One day,
she was called
awake.
Times were urgent,
and the world was falling apart.
It was up to a girl.
To save the helpless people.
To save the world.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clara could hardy breathe.
What did he mean by powerful?
Was he referring to something like what happened at the classroom?
If this was the life she was born into,
she didn't want any part of it.
What was she going to do?
Uncertainty was in the air...
and inside of the not-so-average girl.

Chapter 2
Awakened
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone was running away.
Fear was written on every person's face.
But were they really running away..
or were they running to something.
A gleam a light glimmered in the coal black darkness.
The herd of people ran to it.
The end was near.
The light was their only hope.
Then...

Clara woke up on the dewy grass in a small forest. "Only a dream." she said quietly.
It felt so real. She was afraid to go to sleep. That meant the dream would creep through her slumber and was dream that would never end.
It was early morning. Fog hovered over the sky like a blanket. The air was cool. She shivered from the dew still wet on her clothes as the bitter wind blew.
She stood up and was about to start walking, but she heard the voice (from the classroom) once again behind her. "Clara." She quickly turned as saw a boy about her age. His  green eyes were beyond his years and had hair the color of midnight.

"Who are you?" Clara asked nervously.
My name is Oran, Oran Lachlan."
"Oh.. well I'm.."
"I already know who you are." Oran replied.
"Umm... okay. For starters, how do you know me? I've never seen you before in my life!" Clara said, who was obviously astonished.
Oran smiled smugly and calmly answered, " I am here to help you and make sure no harm comes to you on your journey."
"Who would want to hurt me? I'm just an ordinary girl, and why am I on a journey? I should go home right now. My parents would be..."
 Her parents.
She thought for a moment on this subject. Her parents. They were good people she thought. She couldn't remember what their names were.."
She couldn't remember them at all. Did she have brothers or sisters or even a dog? She searched her mind hoping to find some memory of a family.
 But she could remember nothing.
Oran, who noticed her stuck on this subject, calmly told her the truth.
"Clara, I must tell you something of great importance. Please listen and do not be afraid of what I'm about to say."
Clara was on the verge of tears and slowly nodded and prepared herself for the worst.

"Your parents, your home, your life, everything is a lie. None of it exist. I am sorry for the inconvenience that we caused you but it was necessary. We needed to know whether or not you were ready."

Clara looked at him in shock. "What do you mean "a lie"? It is real! I have friends, family, a life here. Don't tell me it's not real! why would you say such a thing? What do you mean by "ready"? Just go! " Clara spoke these words all in one breath.
Oran looked at her in an annoyed expression.
"You ask too many questions which I really don't have time for. I will tell you this; the dreams you've been having are true. They are the key to your future. You must wake up from this deep sleep Clara. You can never face your true destiny if you live in this dream world."

She tried once more to remember her life.

What was my mother like? Was she the kind of mother who was always busy or was she the type of mother who made time for her child? Did she play games and color with crayons with her when she was little? Was she shy around people or was she a social butterfly? Was she like her? What was her father like? Where did he work, what fun things did they do together?  Her thoughts replayed inside her mind.

Oran, who could obviously see she was upset, said in a hushed voice, "Clara, I know all this must seem rather strange to you, but please keep calm. We don't have much time. It is time for you to wake up. Close your eyes and return to the life fate has chosen for you."

Clara slowly closed her eyes.
The world around her began to disappear.
As if the fog was erasing the life she once had.
She opened her eyes.
She was finally awake.
Very peaceful picture

Melody's Story:

BAM!
The slam of the thick text book echoed in the small bedroom. A girl, who anyone would guess was 16, but was almost 18, sat up from her twin size bed. Her name was Mandy, (short for Amanda,) which she inherited from one of her Aunts she never was able to meet.

With a sigh she swung her legs around over her white and red checkered quilt and let them hang over her bed. Her shoulders slouched effortlessly with exhaustion after the last day of high school had finally finished. Finally, finally it was over. And finally Mandy could let her mind relax!
Her tired gaze was then suddenly locked on her open bedroom window.  A breeze rushed through, fluttering the white laced curtains that hung almost to the floor, and causing Mandy’s grey eyes to blink and snap out of the heavy stare.

Her homework was finished, and she wasn't sure what she wanted to do next. Watch TV? No. The only thing good that was on she promised to watch with her best friend that next Friday night. So she decided just to go downstairs and find something to do. And with that thought, the girl pulled herself up with the support from her bed’s back railing and shoved the text book and other papers and reports inside her 10 year old backpack and zipped it up. Before leaving her room, she picked her phone up from the table by her bed; clicked it on, scanned through her text messages, and then clicked it off before dropping it on her mattress.

She brought the back-pack over to her closet door and hung it on the white hooks her mom had got at a garage sale when she was 9.  Mandy left her room and quickly stepped down the creaky, peeling-paint stairs to the downstairs dining room. The sun beams shone through the large windows and sent the room’s white walls glowing. Mandy smiled after thinking to herself how wonderful the house suddenly seemed to her. She remembered how she always had told herself how much she hated this house. It was one of the oldest houses in her small town, and had so many problems and was too small to her! She remembered how she begged her parents to let them move to a better house! The whole time wanting a bigger bedroom, a bigger yard, more space for a bigger television.

But then, all of a sudden, the house seemed perfect to her.

Standing there up strait with her hands in her pockets, staring through their dining room windows, she thought about how this was the house her parents brought her home from the hospital when she was born, the house that she lost her first tooth in, the house that she broke her first bone in, the house she learned how to play the piano in, the house she had her first birthday in, the house she became a teenager in. And then Mandy suddenly remembered this would be the house she’d become an adult in.
With a slight smile on her face, she began to think about all the memories; the sad and the hilarious, that she had in this house. One of those she remembered was the song she wrote for Mother’s Day on their piano when she was 8. That thought then made her turn around and look at their piano in the back of their family room. It had been months since she last played anything, and right then she really wanted to play something. She walked across the floors to the black large piano and sat down on the wooden bench. Lifting the cover up from the keys, she placed her red, peeling nail-polish hands, and decided to write another song. And in no time at all, she knew what the song would be about: her whole, wonderful life in this house.

Thanks you everybody for participating!
I absolutely loved reading them.

There are also two other poems that stood out to me. I believe they deserve 2nd place.

Good job everyone!!!

C.C.C.W.C. Entry

"Why?"
Clara said under her breathe as she walked on the sidewalk.
"What's wrong with me?"
The rain had just stopped but the wetness still could be seen everywhere.
She walked quickly with her head held high. She was afraid. But she couldn't let fear hold her back. She could hardly breathe.
Her cheeks were red from the cool chill of autumn and the sky was like a blank canvas. Every noise made her heart skip a beat but somehow she kept moving forward, trying to remember what had even happened that very day.

She knew she went to her average high school like she always did but something strange had happened. Something not so average.

She was sitting at her desk. Trying hard to listen to Mr. Smith but something or someone called her name. "Clara." the chilling, nonhuman voice seemed to whisper in her ear. It was so close that she could feel its breathe on her face. Her face went white as snow and time seemed to stop. Everything was in slow motion.
Except her.

She could see the rain pouring outside when it had just been sunny a second before.
Her heart was beating so fast that she thought she would burst, but instead she suddenly felt relief. Something inside of her was unleashed.
Something that could save the world or tear it apart, but the 16 year old girl didn't know this.

Everything began to be at a normal speed and the rain stopped as if nothing unusual had even happened.  She had unleashed something deep inside of her that would change everything.
And there she was, walking on the wet sidewalk, being led by an unknown force.
as her red boots went
clip, clump,
clip, clump.
She walked further and further, knowing that whatever had happened in the classroom happened because of her. She was afraid, very afraid.
